I find that as I am side tracked by Etsy Circles, I create quite a collection of items that seem to "fit" together, making it almost impossible to not create a treasury.

Inspired by wonderful art that these artists have created and for the desire to want to spend lots of time outside with my little ones teaching them about nature and then watching them discover all kinds of things for themselves for the first time. And for them learning things, then explaining them to me or others that may visit our gardens and woods…

[HOW-TO] - Untethered Jailbreak iOS 4.3.1 Using Sn0wbreeze 2.5

I prefer using Redsn0w to Jailbreak iOS 4.3.1. Its a much shorter and simpler way. But if you want to use sn0wbreeze, you can check the instructions below.

And if you encounter the iTunes Error Code 1013 or Error Code 1611, you can check this post to fix it.

The sn0wbreeze 2.5 released by iH8sn0w can now be used to carry out untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3.1 by creating custom firmware. Sn0wbreeze 2.5 allows you to preserver your unlockable baseband to be unlock with ultrasn0w. The guide below will help you to Jailbreak any iOS 4.3.1 device in just a few steps.

This Jailbreak Supports:

• iPhone 3G/3G[S]/4
• iPod Touch 2G/3G/4

Required Downloads:

• Sn0wbreeze 2.5
• iTunes 10.2.1(1) or later

Steps:

Step 1: Open Sn0wbreeze close pop-ups and read warning then press next button.

A New Week (Already?)...

Wow - Spring is here! This week temperatures are supposed to stay above freezing at night, and get up into the 50-60's (today is a freak day - 73 degrees possible?!).

I have been meaning to keep up with my blog a bit more, but honestly, I have been overwhelmed with what I want to post, so I just don't because it would be super huge long posts…

So here is the current State of My Studio (part of the Beads of Clay Blog Series - late I know…)

So here is my Jewelry Making Table (for Bead Table Wednesday)

I broke into my huge stash of artists beads and Love using Joanne Zekowski's glass beads.

I sure hope she comes back to BeadFest this year so I can get more!

I do randomly throw up pics on my MNS FB page as I work. If you "like" my MNS FB page you can see those pics as I post them and use the 10% off code for my Marsha Neal Studio Etsy shop for my Facebook Fans: "FaceBookFan10".

Here is one of my earring pairs in hand. I really love the way this Autumn glaze puddles purple blue and some hints of copper in it… 

I am still struggling with photography of my pieces for Etsy.

A lot of photos that are up there were taken with my iPhone because I could get it to work better than the digital SLR. Less frustrating… Or so I thought because now that I look at the pieces up in my Etsy shop… the darn pictures are blurry. So I need to re-photograph a lot of them.

Luckily I think I may have an idea about what I am doing. Not 100% yet, but I'm getting there…

But this means that I need to go through all the pieces in that photo above (there are layers of trays btw) I need to figure what is actually listed in my shop, of those: what I need to rephotograph. 

Which ones are photographed, but not listed and are those photographs ok or will they be blurry too?

And will the sunlight, camera battery, my patience, and computer - which is currently telling me I am dangerously low on available storage space where I am saving my pictures (time to clean that up as well) all cooperate? 

We'll see…

Oh, and I'm going to give Etsy Stalker a try for April

I am very curious about different ways of marketing and getting your work out there.

Then there is my garden and woods. Right now is the time to pull out the first emerging invasive plants (they like to get a head start on and suffocate out the natives) and the plants I just don't want around (poison ivy, sticker bushes, etc). So I'm getting in as much garden time on Tues & Thurs afternoons after my garden training is done…

Just me, a rake and a pair of rubber faced gloves…

Cleared about 80' by about 15' of the area where our neglected, invasive full woods meets our lawn (or the soon to be replanted wildlife habitat).

But I'm not one of those gardeners that is "strictly native" when it comes to planting my garden. 

I've struggled with this for a while. 

Through confusion & guilt - but I'm figuring out some stuff and feel like I can stand my ground now. 

I'll post about native plant gardening over on my garden blog soon. 

These Hellebores are not a US native. They are from Europe (which is why they are often seen in the "deer resistant" part of the nursery - our local wildlife cannot digest them - I do believe most are poisonous as well). 

So this is a plant that I plant for myself in the garden.

I as caretaker of my garden want to have certain things in my garden. 

This is one of them. 

I love the way that they appear out of the snow in January into February. 

That they bloom when everything else is just tiny nubs… 

This was the plant that I was able to find for my mom to see out in her garden in the early spring when she was fighting Leukemia. 

So to support myself as part of the garden ecosystem (because without me, those invasive plants would take over and the natives I plant to support many levels of life, would get suffocated out), I plant these and a few others that I enjoy. 

Hopefully not causing another level of invasion… 

But really, who wins that argument?

It is about so much more than drawing a line and seeing which side you are on.

[Success!] - Untether Jailbreak My iPhone 4 iOS 4.3.1

Finally, I managed to Jailbreak my iPhone using Redsn0w today.
Initially, I encountered an endless loop in the Recovery Mode but finally managed to resolve this using this method below.

[HOW-TO] - Fix iTunes Error 1013 When Updating iPhone 4 to iOS 4.3.1 [SOLVED]

I was trying to Jailbreak my iPhone iOS 4.3.1 today but encountered a big problem when it cannot exit from the Recovery Mode. I tried several methods to kick out of Recovery Mode using Tiny Umbrella and Fix Recovery but failed. The error 1013 kept appearing after restoring the iOS 4.3.1.

Finally, I found a simple solution shown below;

If you have tried updating to the recently released iOS 4.3.1 update on iPhone 4 and encountered Error Code 1013 or Error Code 1611, then you are a not alone. This has been a common issue across all iOS devices updating to iOS 4.3.1 and Apple Support Discussion forums are full of users complaining about this issue.

This bug has apparently been reported to Apple but if you don’t fancy waiting for an official fix, you can follow this guide to try and successfully update your iOS device to 4.3.1.

Update (April 11, 2011) - Read this article regarding Apple official statement regarding the problem - "Unauthorized modification of iOS has been a major source of instability, disruption of services, and other issues"

Before doing so, you may also like to try and restore using a different computer.
Warning Note: This will result in your iPhone 4 baseband being upgraded to the latest version.
How to Fix Error Code 1013:

Mac OS X:
Step 1. On your Mac, go to your “Applications” folder.
Step 2. Now navigate to the “Utilities” folder.
Step 3. Launch “Terminal”.
Step 4. Type “sudo nano /etc/hosts” (without quotes) and hit return.
Step 5. Enter your password
Step 6. Use the down arrow key to find the “gs.apple.com” entries. Once the cursor is in front, make sure you comment out the line(s) by entering “#” in front of the text.
Step 7. Save the file by pressing CONTROL+O.
Step 8. Exit the nano editor by pressing CONTROL+X.
Step 9. Restore your iDevice.

Windows:
Step 1. Start --> Programs --> Accessories
Step 2. Run Notepad or WordPad 

Step 3. Click “Open..” from File menu.
Step 4. Browse to Windows/System32/drivers/etc 

Step 5. In “files of type:” select all documents
Step 6. Open “hosts”
Step 7. Delete all line that has “gs.apple.com” or something like that 

Step 8. Hit Save
Step 9. Restore your device

Also try to check out this Tip from Karthik.

• In TinyUmbrella, go to Advanced tab and make sure you uncheck “Set Hosts to Cydia on Exit” option.


• As a double check, make sure you don’t have an entry in hosts file in your computer for gs.apple.com. If you do, comment it out and try the restore process again.

[UPDATE - April 11, 2011] - Someone posted and claimed that this error only happens to people who have tried Jailbreaking previously. Also checked another post here which stated:

"Well, another case of hurting the good, while trying to go after the bad. What the issue is apparently Apple put in a check point feature around version 4.2.1 that checks for users who are redirecting their connections to gs.appl.com. If the itunes process suspects this, your phone firmware management process stays in recovery mode. You get error 1013 which says you have a hardware error and list numerous hardware related things for you to check. So my iphone sat on my dresser for two months under the belief that I had a hard ware issue. Well the fact of the matter is that there was nothing wrong with my phone. Apparently there are users who jail brake their iphone to run other apps, and for those users, they have an entry in their hosts file that redirects gs.apple.com to a website that is set up to assists jail break users. all this not endorsed by apple. The checkpoint feature that apple put in to detect this uses a timer and waits for a response between your system and gs.apple.com. If the timer threashold elapses, an assumption is made that you are redirecting your gs.apple.com connection, and are a jail break user. Your phone gets put into recovery mode. Problem with this is that there are ligitimet users who have host files that are ligitemt and does not redirect their connections to gs.apple.com. In my case I use a 60,000 line hosts file to redirect adware, malware, and other vulnabilary type sites. The lenth of time for my PC to search thru this file exceeds the threashold period involved in the checkpoint process, and even though the gs.apple.com entry does not appear in my hosts file, an assumption was made that I was a redirection of gs.apple.com user, and my phone was put into recovery mode. to fix my problem I tempoaryily used the default hosts file of

I have no reason to prevent my system from talking to gs.apple.com. It just takes a little longer to do so. There are thousands of iphone users right now who have iphones locked into recovery mode, probably because they are on a slow internet connection and their threashold is being exceeded. These folks are innocent victims of of the pursuit of the jail break users. Apple needs to figure out another way to do this with out impacting loyal customers. Apple. shame on you. "
