I have been transferred to Delhi; and will report into Delhi Office from May first week..
The last two weeks I have spent most of the time, searching for a place in Delhi, that fits my requirements and most importantly, my budget. The rent in Delhi have sky rocketed, since my last sojourn (in terms of house hunting) here in 2002... Places considered far and not worthy are today prime localities for stay (i mean, NOIDA, Dwaraka, Vasant Kunj, etc)
Well, this time of the year, happens to be wrong time to search for a house in Delhi... hey, but the 'brighter side' (other than the sun:)) is that it cannot go any worse than now..
Here are some helpful tips for people searching for a house in Delhi -
1) Check online for the properties available... you may not find many owner requests, but you surely will find a whole lot of property agents database -
Check out sites like
indiaproperty.com
99acres.com
magicbricks.com
indiaproperties.com
sulekha.com
makaan.com
2) Check the local classifieds that comes during the weekends in Hindustan Times and Times of India
3) Call the agents and be very specific on your requirement (locality) and also on your budget
4) If you are looking at a flat - always prefer the floors in between... DO NOT take anything on the top floor or ground floor (until or unless it is necessary). You will thank me during peak summers and winters :)
5)Check on the water situation... the whole of Delhi has water scarcity problem.. check on the back up storage tanks - its capacity, and the number of motors and the power of the motors. The best thing is to check out if the neighbours have any plants, and if they are watered or not :)
6) Power outage is frequent in Delhi... check if they have back-up or if an inverter would be provided
7) Check for the minimum cupboards in the flats - most of them do not have any
8) Always speak to the owners as soon as possible... the agents would always tell higher price for their own benefit
9) Pitch the agents amongst themselves, by saying that someone else have shown you similar flat for less amount, etc
10) have a proper lease agreement signed before hand
11) Pray - for miracles can happen :)
My search is still on...

My Online Habits..
In my earlier blog, I had mentioned that after few years of regular Internet Usage, you tend to have particular online habit.
These are a few of my daily online habits:
Check email: gmail.com, www.com, hotmail.com
Personal: igoogle.com (use this for search also)
News: Rediff.com, Indiatimes.com,
Industry News: Agencyfaqs.com, E4m.com, contentsutra.com
Instant Messaging: Gtalk, MSN Messengar
Networking: LinkedIn/Orkut
Blog: blogger.com
I try and not miss out of any of the above activities. Also, there are days when I would visit some other sites - work related.. or maybe a Picasa to upload photos... or google adwords for some site analytics.. otherwise, it is the above points, as usual
Cheers

Netboredom: The rise of Internet Boredom
You all might pretty soon hear about a new word : "Netboredom"
Introduction:
Boredom is something that we go through during sometime in our lives. "I'm bored." This phrase is something that you would have used a lot or heard a lot during your life. I am sure, you would remember in your childhood, that you would be aimlessly sitting or doing nothing in specific, and one of the first things you would tell the other person is " I'm bored."
A large number of us people, spend a lot of time on the Net - at work, at home. This number is growing day-by-day. Statistics show that we use the Net for - Mail, Chat, Search, Social Network and visit need related websites (Ecom sites, news sites, general interest sites, work specific sites, etc)... After a continued usage for few years your net usage would have a specific pattern.
However, there are lots of time, when you are on the Net, and you are bored...doing nothing specific... this is what i call "Netboredom."
Symptoms of Netboredom:
1) You have opened a new window in the web browser, and you are staring at the blank page (in case you do not have a default page)
2) You have gone to a common website (you usually visit) eg: Google, and keep staring at it
3) You Google your Granddad's name, to see if there is any result on him
4) You Google your own name (Ego Search)
5) You open your email, and read all the forwards, and spam mails
6) You start searching about frivolous stuff - "what gases forms a fart?" ( I actually found an interesting site, which was dedicated to Farts :))
What to do to avoid Netboredom:
1) You could write a stupid article like this, and keep updating your blog:)
2) You can press the power button and switch off the machine
3) You could create a netboredom community on Facebook or Myspace (Not a bad idea... I should be doing this :)
4) GET UP. GET OUT. HAVE A LIFE.
Cheers
Santosh
PS: In case, you know of any more Netboredom symptoms or remedy for the same, please let me know - Santosh
