I Heart Macro - Glazes!

Welcome to my weekly post to contribute to this weeks
Hosted by Studio Waterstone every Sunday.

This week I am giving you some close up views of some of my porcelain shard pieces...
Marsha Neal Studio Porcelain Shard Beads/Pendants.
And an up close of one of the glazes also pictured above:
Peacock...
Peacock Blue Glaze.
This new Peacock glaze is quite a bit of an obsession of mine…
I love rich muted colors.
I love glazes that are translucent.
I love the way you can see the texture in every detail of my carving.

I hope to have some of these pieces up in my Etsy shop soon.

And real quick - I have a plethora of garden photos to add to my garden blog, and even though blurry, I though this little guy was quite funny with his HUGE goggle-looking eyes!

Check out my garden blog if you want to see more nature related pictures.

Make sure to jump over to Studio Waterstone for this week's:
I Heart Macro Post to see lots of other cool pictures!

[HOW-TO] - Solve "Reopen windows when logging back in" Issue [SOLVED]

screenshot_01-2011-07-30-09-47.jpg

Can you turn off "reopen windows when logging back in" on mac os x lion? I want to permanently uncheck "reopen windows when logging back in" option when shutting down, or restarting Lion. Is there a way to disable it. If you know, please tell me! It is getting too annoying…!

Ask Gadgetator: 3D on Tablets

Ever had something you wanted an extra opinion on. Or maybe you just want some help getting along in this ever complex world of technology. Here's your chance to Ask Gadgetator. Send any tech related questions to gadgetatorblog@gmail.com, and type "Ask Gadgetator" in the subject line, and your question may be featured in a Ask Gadgetator post.

This question comes from "technologyftw" and deals with 3D on phones and tablets.

Question: What do you think of 3D on the G-Slate? Should tablets move towards head-tracking 3D or the kind of 3D on the Evo 3D and Thrill 4G. -technologyftw

Answer: 3D itself seems sort of gimmicky. It’s great in theaters, and okay on a 50 or 60 inch television. Smaller than that, just doesn't really work well. The most obvious reason that 3D gets better as it the picture gets bigger, is because 3D really needs to fill your field of view.

In real life, your entire vision is seen in 3D. This seems natural. Once you get it down even to a theater size, It seems less natural, because the 3D you are seeing onscreen is different that the 3D that the chair in front of you is. “Artificial 3D” is more 3D seeming than what you see in real life. Therefore the sudden change from artificial to natural 3D can look unnatural.

Television 3D is worse. With a theater, at least it fills up the majority of your field of view. With a TV, it only fills up a small part of your field of view, so the transition between artificial and natural 3D is less natural looking.

Once you get down to the 3 or 4 inch screens on a phone, or even the 9 or 10 inch screens on a tablet, the 3D just won’t look as good. It barely fills your field of view, and therefore just doesn’t look natural.

Movie theaters, 3D is good, TV’s, it’s okay, but on a phone or tablet, 3D is just a gimmick to make you buy the product.

My answer to your question is that tablets should not move towards head tracking or any other kind of 3D, and should stick with the good old two dimensions that we have grown to know and love.

Help Me ~ Team & Treasury Frenzy...

I find it interesting to be part of teams over on Etsy - there is such a mix of artists...

For the Etsy Mud Team I just created this treasury:

And for the Delaware Etsy Street Team, this one:

So if you see me posting more treasuries for Beads of Clay and TriState Area Teams before next week - make sure to call my husband and tell him I need help…

I just can't help it sometimes - there is such awesome stuff over there on Etsy and I can't afford it all, so somehow making Treasuries - or rather "personal viewing collections" - I feel like I've shopped without having to come home and hide everything. Or rather, for Etsy shopping - get to the mailbox and hide all the items before Dave sees them…

Man I miss the days of having a car with my own private trunk space…

I'm off to the studio for a bit this week.
Making beads & glazing pieces for orders to be happening…

What are you up to this week?

Front Page On Etsy and SNS Treasury...

My "Sea Shore" silk knot bundle was featured on the front page of Etsy right before midnight last night…
Sea Shore Silk Knot Bundle on Etsy
I've never had anything from my shop up there - so it was such a rush to be online during the SNS (Saturday Night Specials) event and see what happens live…

The beautiful treasury this was featured in is called:
It was so cool to see all the "hearts" showing up in the activity feed.
I'm so easily amused…
Doesn't take much to make this girl happy sometimes!

I also wanted to get a treasury made for the SNS Team, but I with Riley being a little fussy through the night (Dave took first shift) and me listing the treasuries from SNS on my blog (I didn't even get them all listed - wow!), I didn't pull through until um - 1:30am…
Here is my SNS Team Treasury:

I hope that in upcoming weeks on Saturday I can be a little more on the ball with this and get treasuries done before the peak of the event.

Want more info?
Want to be a part of this or catch some sales?
Every Saturday Night:
Starting Time: 5pm EST Saturday
Ending Time: 6am EST Sunday
Click on the weekly "Original SNS for Saturday's Date" discussion thread and you will see a bunch of shops with links to their shops, their coupon code or sale, and a sample of their item.

It's a lot of fun!
Especially if you're hanging out at home catching a movie on the television...

Saturday Night Special Fun!!!

What Do You Do On Saturday Nights?
We are usually running around a bit crazy until 9 or 10pm with the little ones...
Riley and Marsha Saturday Night...
Once Riley has gone to bed, we settle in for some movie and popcorn time with Chloe and I get some time to "work" on the computer.

I've found a new Team over on Etsy to be a part of:
Etsians that join this team run a "Saturday Night Special" in their shop from 5pm EST Saturday night through 6am EST Sunday and pop in and out over on the team thread to chat (there are two dedicated discussions for each topic).
Want to shop and get a deal on some items over on Etsy?
Click HERE to go to the team discussion thread where shops have listed their coupon code, a sample item from their shop and a link to their shop.

It is like my Etsy family exponentially grew overnight…
I love the energy over on this team!
And the treasuries & exposure is awesome…

I love shopping the treasuries, so I decided to add this post to my blog to help promote the team and all the shops participating in this weekly event.
I'm going back over there, and to maybe make some team treasuries to add to the list below.
And of course - To Shop!!!

iPhone 5 Set To Launch on Sept. 5, 2011

It was rumored that iPhone 5 to be release on Sept. 5.

Expected iPhone 5 features are:

  • A5 processor in the range of 1.2-1.5 GHz

  • An improved antenna (no more Antennagate, yay!)

  • More RAM, possibly 1GB

  • Bigger-edge-to-edge 3.7- to 4-inch curved glass screen (iPhone 4 has 3.5-inch screen)

  • 8-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash

  • Panoramic photo capture and 1080p Full HD video capture capabilities

  • 3-4 internal antennas for both GSM and CDMA networks

  • 4G connectivity

  • iOS 5, which will be true multitask capable and come with loads of new features such as News Stand, Reminders, Delta Updates and iMessage

  • Improved speech recognition features, and

  • Wireless charging capability

  • Improved battery life

  • More powerful gaming capabilities supported by multi-core A5 processor and Imagination Technologies' PowerVR Series6 mobile graphics processing architecture

  • It was earlier rumored that the new iPhone will also support Near Field Communication (NFC) technology to keep pace with Android rivals like Samsung Galaxy S II and Google Nexus 4G, but Device Magazine claims iPhone 5 may give NFC a miss and opt to support Bluetooth 4.0 instead, just like the new MacBook Air and Mac Mini have done. For the uninitiated, Bluetooth 4.0 comes with higher range (maybe up to 200 meters) and spends less power.

iOS 5.0 Jailbreak

NOTE: This is still iOS 5.0 Beta 4 Tethered jailbreak Solution.

Shortly ago, iOS 5 Beta 4 was released to Apple developers. Those who have installed it are probably wondering how easy it will be to jailbreak the new system. It turns out you can do it the same way you’d do with all previous builds of iOS 5, using the just released version of Redsn0w.
iOS-5-2011-07-23-18-13.png
Redsn0w for iOS 5 has received a minor update to make it compatible with iOS 5 Beta 4.
Redsn0w is fairly easy to install and use, since the program itself provides concise instructions on all the manual steps that need to be followed. While that may be true, it’s recommended that you have basic knowledge on basic iOS maintenance tasks, including restoring and entering DFU mode, in order to proceed. Also, remember that jailbreaking your device will void your warranty. You can follow the full tutorial here.
This is a tethered jailbreak, which means that the device will have to be plugged into the computer whenever it’s powered on, in order to be booted into a jailbroken state. It wouldn’t be worth for developers to work on an untethered method at this point, definitely not anytime before the final version of iOS finally ships

Etsy Shop - Almost Scrubbed Toothbrush-Clean...

I almost have not left my computer in 2 days - which I can't stand!
My back is killing me…
Thank You Dave for hitting up my lower back with some mineral ice tonight…
So romantic right? Hey - I'm ok with that...
I've been busily cleaning up my computer photos, my Etsy inventory, and my Etsy listings…
Wallpaper Flower Pendant in New Peacock Glaze
I've been updating the information in each listing…
Note to self - do not list anything new until your listings are updated.
Then copy and paste or you will have 70+ listings to check through vs 40…

I've been changing up categories, tags and titles hoping to get more hits through Etsy search terms and Google Analytics.
I'm hoping to actually get to looking into Google Analytics to see what it is all about and see how it can help promote my Etsy shop by what I'm already doing.

What kinds of stuff do you do to help improve the visibility of your Etsy Shop?
Do you participate in Etsy Circles and Favorites?
Here is a link to my Etsy profile if you want to add me to your circle or favorite.
I'm on there quite a bit these days...
How have sales been in your shop compared to this time last year?
What kinds of things are you getting ready for in your shop?

Here is one of my latest Etsy treasuries:
Bring On The Fall...

Thanks for taking the time to stop by and leave a comment…
See you over there on Etsy or FaceBook.

Enough Already - Spa Day (Sorta)...

Do you find yourself where I am right now?

In that place where you just feel overwhelmed and frustrated?
Just because there is SO much going on, and you can't seem to get anywhere?

I feel like that about a few things, and as of today, the foot is going down…
Laptop is being backed up.
Then files deleted.
I am sick of seeing that "you are running low on hard drive space" message.

I'm running low on a lot of things - patience being one of them…

So today as my computer is getting a "spa day" - my brain will be too.
I am going through my Inventory on my Etsy shop and in photos in my "Etsy February Update" folder.
There are sub-folders too with April and Now in that February one.

I feel so much better after going through stuff to see what I have listed...
What I have photographed, need to be listed…
And photographed, already listed and maybe sold…

I love purging days.
Then to get to my Quickbooks so I can finally get some correct perspective on where my business stands in reality and not just my brain (cause I know my brain lives in a fun place, and not necessarily reality most days).

Hope you are keeping cool if you are in this unbearable heat wave…

Oh, and keep an eye on my Etsy Shop for updates in the next week.
I've got plans for photographing a bunch of items that have been coming out of the kilns in the last few months that are yummy...

My Time Capsule Managed to save Mac OS X Lion Installer before it got Deleted!

Lot’s of people got frustrated that they can’t find the Mac OS X Installer in their Applications folder anymore after installing the new OS. Reason being - the Installer dmg file is automatically deleted after it completes the installation. I am one of the people in this category …

However, I was lucky enough that my Time Machine has made a backup of the whole Installer file and thus I can restore it back from my Time Machine backup. Phew…

Roaring of Mac OS X Lion

Apple just released its latest OS X - The Lion today.
Price US 29.99
Size: 3.98 GB
I am now downloading it...

Mac OS X Lion is Out: How to Get It

Click here to see why you'd even want Mac OS X Lion.

After many rumors, Mac OS X Lion, Apple's latest edition of their Mac operating system, is finally out. And if you have a Mac computer of any kind, you probably want to upgrade to the newer, better OS. The good thing is, it's never been easier. Or cheaper. Unlike previous versions of Mac OS X, Lion is only a $29.99 download, and you basically get licenses for as many computers as you want.

Firstly, you must make sure that your Mac is compatible with Lion. To do this, click on the small Apple logo in the top left corner of your screen, a menu will come down, and select "About This Mac". A box will appear. Look under the "Software Update" button where it says "Processor". If the processor you have is a Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon, then your Mac is ready to Lion it up. Almost.

About This Mac
Next, while staying on that same About This Mac screen, is to check if your operating system is ready to upgrade. Immediately above the "Software Update" button it will show a version number. If your version is 10.6.8, you can skip to the next paragraph, if not, read on. If the version number is starts in 10.6. but is not 10.6.8, click the "Software Update" button below. This will update your Mac to the latest version of OS X Snow Leopard. If your version number starts with anything besides for 10.6, you have to get Snow Leopard, (Version 10.6) by buying it for $29.99 here. Once you've upgraded to Snow Leopard, you are ready to go.

Click here to open up the Mac OS X Lion page, and click "View in App Store". If you are running the latest version of Snow Leopard, that should bring up the Mac App Store, in which you can simply click "Buy". Mac OS X Lion is a pretty large download, so it could take a few hours, or even more. When done downloading, follow the instructions shown on the screen, which should be pretty straightforward. When you are done, you'll have Lion.

Hoped you enjoy. Any problems with the install? Have any other questions? Pop me a comment below, and I'll get back to you ASAP.

Make An OS X Lion Boot Disc

Make An OS X Lion Boot Disc
Monday July 18, 2011 1:24 pm PDT by Jordan Golson
macosxicon1-150x153-2011-07-19-18-42.jpg
Lion may be the first release of the Mac OS to be delivered as a digital download, but there has been a circulating method to burn the Lion download onto a bootable DVD. The process still works for the Golden Master version of Lion and is a pretty straightforward process for Mac users who are comfortable making their way around the Finder.

An email from Steve Jobs suggested the only way to perform a completely clean install of Lion was to first install Snow Leopard, then install Lion on top of that. That is a pain in the neck, to say the least. By burning your own Lion disc, you can painlessly do clean installs on all your machines.

Another reason to have a physical install disc is if you have Macs in an area with poor or no Internet. Apple has suggested that Mac owners come into Apple Retail Stores and download Lion on the store Internet connection -- useful for some, but some people live hours from the nearest Apple Store. By burning a disc, users can download Lion only once, and install it easily on all their Macs. Here's how to do it.

As posted by Egg Freckles, this method should work in the final retail release of Lion:

- Once Lion is released, purchase and download it from the Mac App Store.

- Locate the OS X Lion installer and right-click on it. Select 'Show Package Contents'.

- Inside the 'Contents' folder, there is a 'SharedSupport' folder. Inside that is the Lion Installer. It's called 'InstallESD.dmg".

- Copy 'InstallESD.dmg' to the Desktop by clicking and dragging it while holding down the Option-key. You should see a little green plus icon if you did it right.

- Open Disk Utility. Head to the Go menu in the Finder and select 'Utilities'. Disk Utility should be in there.

- Click the burn button.

- Select 'InstallESD.dmg' from the Desktop, insert a blank 4.7GB DVD and wait. Once it's finished, you'll have a shiny new Lion install DVD.

You can now install Lion on whatever machines you like, just as if you'd purchased the install disc from your local Apple Store. Lion is expected to launch on the Mac App Store this week.

Amazon Announces Kindle Textbook Rentals

One of the major things that is keeping students around the world paper-free, is the fact that textbooks just aren't available on electronic devices. Well, weren't. Amazon, the creator of the popular Kindle eReader device, announced today that they would be launching a textbook rental service, and claims that students can save up to 80% on their textbooks.

"Today, Amazon.com announced the launch of Kindle Textbook Rental," Said the Amazon.com press release, "Now students can save up to 80% off textbook list prices by renting from the Kindle Store. Tens of thousands of textbooks are available for the 2011 school year from leading textbook publishers such as John Wiley & Sons, Elsevier and Taylor & Francis. Students can find details about the program at www.amazon.com/kindletextbooks"

The Kindle textbooks can be rented anywhere from 30 to 360 days, so students really have flexibility. Also, like other Kindle books, these are, as Amazon.com calls it, "Rent once, read anywhere". This means that you can read a Kindle textbook on, of course, the Kindle device, as well as the Kindle app for iPhone, Android, and even for the Mac and PC.

This seems extremely convenient, however, although Amazon is claiming prices up to 80% than hardcover books, that is not countering in the fact that many people can sell used textbooks after using them, and earn back a percentage of what they paid originally.

Do you think it's worth the convenience to lose the reselling value? Are you going to be using this new Kindle feature? Let me know by simply commenting below. Thank you.

I Heart Macro - Chloe's View

Here is my post for this week's I Heart Macro over at Studio Waterstone.
But from a different point of view…
Chloe's 3 year old view through pictures taken with the iPhone camera...
Lots of photos from the car...
She likes taking pictures of her dolls...
At 3.5 years old - not bad (just a bit blurry)...
Lots of pictures of her little finger too...
This one is crazy that the center is in focus.
I doubt I could do that if I tried...
Taking a picture of mom, taking a picture of her...
And here is my new haircut - photo taken by me a few days ago.
Still working on finding a photo I'm happy with for my avatar for all things related to me…

Go on over and check out the other posts for this week's I Heart Macro!
Thanks for stopping by here...

5 iPhone Apps you Need: App 5

This is the last post in a series of five. Read the fourth post here.

I don't have to go over it again. But I will. So you're managing your money, cooking, listening to music, and traveling to the Chumbe Islands, now that you've done all this, you probably want to sit down and relax. And share pictures of your new-found stacks of money, your beautiful onion soup, you dancing around to that new band you just found out about, and of course, the wonderful vacation you just had. There's an app for that.

Instagram, recommended by my friend AJ Goren of TechLand, is available, for free, from Instagram.com. Instagram allows you to take photos with your iPhone or iPod touch's camera, and, after putting the photo through one of the many vintage filters, post it for all to see.

Instagram is not only a way for you to share photos, it's also a great way to find beautiful photos that others have taken, either by following a specific person, or by just browsing the popular section. You can also easily export your photos to Flickr, Facebook, and Twitter.

One of the biggest parts of Instagram is the filters. Although you can keep a photo "normal" there are also many filters that make the photo look like it was taken before today's technology existed.

You can download Instagram at Instagram.com, or directly from the AppStore. I hope you enjoy Instagram, and I hope you enjoyed this entire five part series.

Help Gadgetator by simply clicking on one of the sharing icons below. Also, like Gadgetator on Facebook by clicking the "like" button near the top right corner of the page. Happy sharing!

Good and Not So Good Times...

It's been a while since I've had time to spend in the studio finding my creative self.
I've found my organizational self - which did release some of my inner creative being...
Chloe loves coming into the studio with me to work on stringing beads…
She makes lots of bracelets for her friends at school...
Chloe gets her own area to work in, away from  mom's stuff.
And she loves to paint with underglazes on bisque beads I've got around the studio…
I think it is amazing to watch her techniques at this stage - it is all by feeling and instinct.
And she and I spend time outside exploring in the garden together...
I think I may be rubbing off on her with some of my interests…
I hope she rubs off on me just as much with her 3 year old visions and inclinations…

I recently heard that the Helen Graham Cancer Center installed a green roof garden outside of their chemo treatment floor in their new building. My mom would have loved this view instead of a hospital room when she was trying to fight her Leukemia back in 2007.
Unfortunately we were there to get some blood work done for my husband on Monday.
We are praying nothing too serious - maybe just oddly normal stuff (so far things are pointing in that direction). But this is where the hematologists offices are…
I hope we only have to go back for follow up visits with good news…

We want to spend more time here having moments things like this...
…and this:

And for me, I am happily finding a little time here and there to get into the jewelry area.
I can actually just reach up and grab the stuff I need, use it, then put it back…
SWEET!!!
Especially happy to work on some custom earring orders for some customers that ordered them through my Etsy shop!
I really enjoy this side of the process…
Thanks for letting me create these for you!
Don't you want a pair too? I can make them for you…
Just go pick your shard & tell me to make them into earrings for you ;)
Shard Earrings - almost completed...
Oh, and I got my hair cut on Monday afternoon - chin length…
And have been glazing like a fiend getting a ton of cabs ready for upcoming shows for D7 Studio.
Will have more pics of all that stuff soon.
We have a birthday this weekend & Harry Potter movie to go and see…

Hope you're getting through the every day too…
Thanks for swinging by!
